What the heck
is boudoir?
In the 1920s, boudoir photography was a bit scandalous since naughty nudes were considered taboo. But then along came the French photographer, Albert Arthur Allen, who had a knack for capturing curvaceous women in a romantic and tasteful manner. His work opened the door for all of us naughty-but-nice photographers.
Fast forward to the 1940s, and boudoir became a popular art form, with its roots firmly planted in the pin-up model scene. By the 1970s, photography was finally recognized as a legitimate fine art, and magazines even started featuring photos of nude models. Times were changing, and boudoir photography was here to stay.
Today, boudoir photography serves many purposes. Sure, it's still a fantastic way to create a tantalizing gift for your partner, but it has also become a powerful tool for self-empowerment. We believe that every woman deserves to feel confident and sexy, whether she's rocking lacy lingerie or going au naturel.
There are no rules when it comes to boudoir photoshoots. The possibilities are endless, and the only limits are in the creative collaboration between our photographers and their muse (that's you!). So, whether you're looking to embrace your inner goddess, celebrate a milestone, or just have a damn good time, our Atlanta Boudoir Photography Studio is ready to make your fantasies come to life.
Am I right for this?
-
You'd be surprised how many women say that exact sentence to us — usually on the consultation call, after they've spent months watching our work. The answer is yes. Our clients are working women, moms, professionals, women in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond. They aren't models. Most of them haven't been in a real photo since their wedding day. The women you see in our portfolio are exactly the women who said "I'm not the kind of woman who does this" before they booked. The session itself is what changes that sentence.
-
Almost every client we've ever worked with said some version of this before her session. Here's the truth we tell them on the consultation: the body you have today is the body you're going to wish you'd photographed five years from now. We've heard it too many times — women who finally book and then say "I should have done this a decade ago." If you're waiting for a different body to feel ready, this is the day you're going to look back on.
-
Almost no one does. Kaia directs every angle, every hand placement, where your eyes go, how your weight shifts. You don't bring posing skills. You bring yourself. The whole studio is set up so that the only thing you have to be good at is showing up.
-
Absolutely not. Some of our most powerful sessions have been with women in their 60s and 70s. The truth is the older you get, the more meaningful these images become. A boudoir session in your 50s isn't a comparison to a 25-year-old — it's a celebration of the woman you've become. Our clients in this age range often say it's the first time in decades they've seen themselves the way their partner sees them.
-
We do lite retouching on every image — color toning, contrast, things that polish the image. We do NOT automatically do liquifying or removing what makes you you. If you specifically want stretch marks softened or removed, scars minimized, or other targeted retouching on your final images, we'll absolutely do that for you — but our default is to show you the way you actually look. The healing piece of boudoir comes from seeing your real body and recognizing it as desirable. Photoshop can't give you that.
-
You probably won't relax in the first 10 minutes — almost no one does. By the 20 minute mark, after you've seen a few shots on the back of the camera and realized you actually look incredible, something shifts. By the third or fourth set, you're laughing and asking to try things you'd never have agreed to at the start. We've watched this pattern play out hundreds of times. You don't have to arrive relaxed. You have to arrive willing.
-
Oh yes! Please do check out our portfolio and instagram to see the wide ranges of body types we have had the pleasure of photographing. I’d go as far as to say this would actually be a specialty of ours!
-
Absolutely! All are welcome here.
-
Yes, we do! While we are not currently insured for explicit work (penetration, etc), kink, nude and teaser content is a-ok!
We are actively working on a subscription plan for content creators who wish to come in regularly. Stay tuned!
What actually happens
-
First we start with a styling session — pull from our client closet sized XS-4X or bring your own. Next up is professional hair and makeup with optional wine (about 1-2 hours). We shoot across 20+ set designs, building from your easiest concept toward your boldest. You'll see preview shots on the back of the camera throughout (1-1.5 hours). After the shoot, we take a short break (30-45 minutes), then reveal the lightly-retouched gallery on a big-screen TV and walk you through choosing your favorites. Same-day reveal, same-day decisions. You walk in nervous and walk out a different person.
-
Plan for 5-6 hours. About 1-2 hours of styling, hair and makeup, 1-1.5 hours of shooting (4 outfits across 4 sets), a 30-45 minute break while we do light retouching, and 1 hour for the reveal and choosing your collection. Pack snacks. Bring water. Don't schedule anything else that day.
-
Drink water (hydrated skin photographs better). Sleep well. Skip the alcohol the night before (puffy eyes). Eat normally — don't do anything weird with food the day of. You know what bloats you, so just avoid that. Have your wardrobe laid out and ready to go. Don't get a new haircut or color the day before — schedule it at least a week out. Show up with clean skin and your everyday self.
-
Some clients bring a friend for moral support. We welcome it as long as the friend is genuinely supportive — boudoir is vulnerable work, and a friend who's nervous or judgmental can change the energy in the room. If you want to bring someone, ask yourself: would she make you braver, or more self-conscious? Bring the one who makes you braver.
-
Yes, but consider whether you want this experience for YOU first or for them. Many clients have the most powerful sessions when their partner isn't there — they discover something about themselves they couldn't discover under their gaze. If your partner is here, the energy shifts toward "performing for them" rather than "discovering me." We recommend doing the first session solo. The album becomes the surprise. BUT, if you know this would make you more comfortable, please do bring them!
-
Yes, this is an option for anyone who is comfortable baring it all!
-
Yes, we photograph Monday-Friday and typically start at 11 or 11:30AM. The start time can be flexible, so just ask if you need it a bit later keeping in mind that photoshoots are five hours long!
Mini sessions are conducted on weekends with the associate photographer.
Wardrobe and Prep
-
For your boudoir photoshoot, you are encouraged to pack a mix of traditional staples, casual favorites, and highly personal pieces to create a diverse and meaningful gallery. Start with classic lingerie, form-fitting bodysuits, and a dramatic, flowing robe, but don't hesitate to think outside the box with unconventional items like an off-the-shoulder chunky knit sweater, unbuttoned everyday denim, or your partner’s oversized button-down shirt. For an artful or romantic touch, consider vintage corsets, heirloom slips, or your wedding veil. Finally, bring the session to life by incorporating props that speak directly to your unique story and interests—whether that means a favorite book, a meaningful coffee mug, or pieces tied to your hobbies and passions.
-
Oh yes! We have a HUGE client closet with body suits ranging from size XS-4X that you're welcome to use. Most clients do a mix — they bring 1-2 pieces that mean something to them and pull a few from our closet.
We have a small collection of holiday outfits/accessories and some sports wear.
Our Hollywood style robes are premium add-ons. We carry blush pink, red, taupe and black.
Accessories are plentiful with a large selection of jewelry, crowns, etc. -
Optional, not required. If you usually wear self-tanner or get spray tans, do what you normally do but schedule the tan 2-3 days before your session (fresh tans photograph orange and streaky). If you don't normally tan, don't start for the session unless you have plenty of time to experiment — your natural skin will look better than a tan you're not used to.
-
Yes. Your hands and feet appear in many shots. Nails should be polished (neutral or classic colors work for the widest range of looks; bold colors are great if they fit your concept). Schedule the mani/pedi 1-3 days before your session.
-
You don't need to bring shoes for every outfit— many of our shots are barefoot or feet-out-of-frame. If you want heels, bring nude or black classic pumps. Specialty footwear (boots, costume heels) is welcome if it fits a specific concept. Don't go buy expensive shoes for the session if you don’t plan on wearing them later.
We also have a hefty selection of heels in our client closet from size 4.5-11!
Money & Booking
-
The session retainer ranges from $149-549 depending on session type — standard sessions are $349. Your collection is separate. The minimum collection is $999 for 10 digital images. So the absolute minimum total is around $1,348 — but most clients invest more once they see their gallery. Minis are approximately 50% of the standard pricing with our associate photographer.
-
Yes. Pre-payment plans (build up your investment before your session) and post-payment plans (pay over time after your reveal) are both available — through us at 3% interest for up to 6 months, or through Affirm, Afterpay, or PayPal Credit if you want your images immediately. We also offer bonuses for clients who prepay before their session — angel wings, the St. Andrew's Cross, headshots, milk bath sets, and more.
-
Typically 4-12 weeks ahead. Weekends fill faster than weekdays. If you're booking around a specific event (birthday, anniversary, wedding gift), give yourself at least 8 weeks for the session + album delivery. And, obviously, the more time to prepare, the better!
-
Yes! Gift certificates apply toward the retainer or the collection — they don't replace the consultation process. The recipient still books her own consultation and chooses her own session.
-
Session retainers cover everything that happens the day of your session. Our retainers range from $149-549 and, depending on your session type, include a styling session, professional hair and makeup, access the the client closet, choice of sets from 20+ set designs, same-day lite retouch and same-day photo reveal and ordering appointment.
Images & Privacy
-
We’re blessed to have most clients give permission to share, but you have full control here! If you want things 100% private, just you and our editing team will see them. Some clients give permission for portfolio use, social media, or marketing while others to choose to share only images that don’t show their face or don’t contain nudity. You get the final call.
-
Only if you are ok with it! We have model releases giving us specific permissions should you have any clarifying criteria.
-
Lite retouching on every image happens the day of your session— color toning, contrast, polish. No liquifying. No skin smoothing as default. No removing what makes you you. However, once you choose your favorite images, if you want targeted retouching such as specific scar minimized, stretch mark or cellulite removal), we do that to the degree you prefer. We do soft skin smoothing on all images automatically as our powerful strobe lights and high quality lenses show more skin texture than you would normally see with your own eyes.
Our default philosophy: you should see your real body and recognize it as desirable. That's the empowerment piece. -
After your reveal day, your final retouched digital images are delivered within 2-3 weeks of the collection being paid in full. Physical products (albums, prints, wall art) typically arrive 6-8 weeks after your final payment, depending on the product. We'll keep you updated on production.
