is there a “Right” time to do boudoir…

As a boudoir photographer here in Atlanta, one question often asked is, "When is the best time to take boudoir photos?" The answer to this question is actually quite simple – there is no "right" time. Seriously, you can make the time centered around a life event, but it’s really more about when you are ready to fall in love with you!

Boudoir photography is all about capturing you in the the way that makes YOU feel most empowered. For one woman it could be a delicate bridal boudoir photoshoot with white lace and pastel floral accents that highlight her softness and femininity while the next would prefer a leather body harness, fishnet stockings, fierce red lips and dominant poses that tap into her fierceness (and maybe even inner dominatrix) as a woman. ;) My job is to understand YOU and what makes YOU feel best for your boudoir session.

But whether you're planning a boudoir shoot for yourself or as a gift for someone special, there are a few things to keep in mind when choosing the best time for your session.

First and foremost, the element of any deadlines for your photographs to be delivered should be considered. If you are hoping to do a Christmas or Valentines Day boudoir theme, for instance, you’ll want to make sure to reach out 3 or more months in advance as holidays get booked up rapidly. We also want to make sure we have as much time as possible to edit, design and deliver everything.

Same goes for birthdays and anniversaries, you’ll want to reach out a few months in advance to make sure we time it perfectly. Trust me, you do not want to wait last minute for any of these.

Now, if a specific date isn’t the priority for your boudoir planning, it makes sense to simply find a day where you can take off work, detach from responsibilities for a while and enjoy a day of full-fledged pampering. I’ll mention a common thing I hear is women expressing concerns about needing time to “lose weight” or x, y, z - I won’t dimish that and say your goals aren’t accomplishable. As an athlete, I definitely know they are, but don’t push it off for an undetermined amount of time where it may or may not come to fruition. Put a date on the calendar for however many months out you need and use that time to prepare, as needed. Let this date be the driving factor in your preparation and celebrate it when it comes!

For anyone experiencing feelings of doubt regarding their self-image or juggling a never ending schedule, I say that’s life and it never ends! It’s up to you to carve out that time for yourself, even if it means hiring a babysitter or taking a day out of the office. We do so much for the loved ones in our life regardless of convenience. Don’t you deserve that once in a blue moon too?

Ultimately, the best time to take boudoir photos is when you’re ready to say I’m worth it! We’re here at My Boudoir Atlanta when you’re ready to create bad ass images that will serve as a reminder of your inherent beauty for years to come.
